Weekly Trade Roundup: Cargo Theft, U.S. Trade Deficit, U.S. / Japan EV Trade Deal
Welcome to a new segment of the Simply Trade Podcast. We are looking to provide more information regarding trade. This new segment will summarize relevant trade stories for the week.
Annik Sobing will be hosting this segment while Andy and Lalo contribute their two cents on those news stories.
In today's episode, we'll be discussing the following topics in trade:
First up: freight theft has become a growing problem within the US supply chain. Thieves are targeting high-value goods such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, and food and beverages. The pandemic has disrupted global supply chains, making it more challenging for companies to implement adequate security measures.
Secondly, the US goods trade deficit has widened due to the pandemic's impact on global trade flows. There has been a decline in exports, particularly in the areas of civilian aircraft and soybeans.
Finally, the United States and Japan have reached a deal to increase the supply of electric vehicle battery minerals and reduce reliance on China. The two countries have agreed to cooperate on developing technologies to extract and process these minerals.
As companies continue to grapple with these complex issues, they must adapt and innovate to ensure they can thrive in the global marketplace. Join us as we explore these topics in more detail and discuss the implications for businesses operating in the current economic climate.
Enjoy the show.
